Hypertext2: United States

January 1, 2008

For the most part, education in America is fantastic. But abroad, at least in my experience, there is a strong sentiment that Americans are concerned with no one but themselves. People perceive the majority as ignorant of other cultures and unwilling to learn about them. Sometimes you can’t really blame them for thinking so. Miss Teen South Carolina, anyone? Perhaps what’s more embarrassing than her ramble answer is the statistic on which the question was based (one fifth of Americans cannot point America out on a world map). If 20% of us don’t know where America is, how are we going to know what Colo-Colo is?
